NCC Education is delighted to announce a new progression route to 2-Year BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences at the University of Central Lancashire, UK.
In 2013, the University of Central Lancashire merged together the School of Dentistry and the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education to create the School of Medicine and Dentistry that exists today. Taught at Victoria Mill at the university’s Burnley campus, its BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences is an accelerated programme delivered over two years in a small and friendly environment.
The programme provides a unique opportunity to gain a scientific degree within a clinically-focused curriculum. Students enjoy access to state-of-the-art facilities such as specialised human anatomy resource centres and are taught by experienced scientists, doctors and clinicians. Learning in small, culturally diverse groups, the BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences course promotes integration, cultural exchange and personal development.
In first year, students study integrated medical sciences, medical microbiology, anatomy and physiology, immunology as well as clinic communication and medical skills. In second year, students take set modules in research in medical sciences, anatomy and physiology, molecular medicine, neuroscience, medical pharmacology and therapeutics and students undertake a research project.
The accelerated 2-year nature of the degree means that each year encompasses three semesters rather than only two, thus saving time and money on yearly tuition and accommodation fees compared with equivalent 3-year programmes. Furthermore, finishing a year early allows students to progress onto postgraduate courses more quickly.
By completing this degree, students are well-prepared for a range of graduate-entry programmes, including Medicine, Dentistry, Physician Associate, Pharmacy and other professional healthcare programmes. Alternatively, students may wish to go into a careers in healthcare-related industries or scientific research.
In the National Student Survey results 2023-2024, 88% of the University’s BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences students agree with the statements ‘The course has developed the knowledge and skills I think I will need for my future’ and ‘Teaching staff have supported my learning well’. Moreover, 95% of students agree with the statement ‘It has been easy to access subject-specific resources (e.g. equipment, facilities, software, collections) when I needed to’ (Discover Uni).
The Institution holds an impressive 4 QS Stars overall and 5 QS Stars for Teaching, Employability, Global Engagement, Facilities and Inclusiveness. Upon completing NCC Education Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies, students are welcome to apply to the BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences at the University*.
